We offer 2 and 5 day residential courses, designed to give delegates a complete understanding of the licensed trade, including qualifications and dedicated training, delivered by highly experienced  trainers with over 50 years of hands on experience in the industry.

The courses are run in a busy Village Inn situated in the heart of Leicestershire, less than half-a-mile from junction 22 of the M1.

The Coach and Horses boasts facilities and service that guarantee an enjoyable visit. Delegates will form part of the team delivering that service during the course. 

Delegates will not only study in this environment but also work along side staff and duty managers.

Our courses show not only the theory side of running a Pub in today’s competitive market, but also show the practical work and effort that you will need to put in every day to succeed, we know how hard it is - because our practical courses are built around our own experiences.

Our courses commence on Sunday afternoon allowing delegates time to arrive and settle into their accommodation before the course commences around 4.30pm.

Delegates will be eased in gently with an opportunity to meet other delegates and the training team who will work with them over the course.  This will be followed by an exercise to sharpen the mind and get those little grey cells working! After this, the work really begins with an industry overview and outlining access routes into the business.  This will be followed by an introduction to wines and spirit production and will culminate with a cheese and wine tasting - featuring, of course, the wonderful Stilton and other local cheeses.

Monday morning the work really begins - the day will start at 9.00am and delegates will still be on the go at 9.00pm - learning the essential arts of eating when you can and doing three things at once!

This will set the scene for the rest of the week! Early mornings doing line cleaning, late nights cashing up and closing the bar and in between, serving pints, taking food orders, using tills, checking deliveries and on top of that - Class room work as well!  In fact - just like running your own pub!!

The Really Essential Residential

This 5-day course covers all aspects of the licensed trade, providing knowledge of Employment Law, Training, Recruitment, Marketing and Financial Management and culminates with delegates taking the British Institute of Innkeeping - National Certificate in Licensed Retail Management;
